To be very honest guys, consistently following my skincare routine for a clearer skin is hard work- I know I’m not the only one on this table (let’s pray for deliverance 😭).
Consistently following my skincare routine is hard work!www.beautyandbooks.com.ng
But as hard as it can be, local woman must make an effort. Last week Thursday, I randomly caught a glimpse of my face in the mirror and had to drop what I was doing to look properly and I kid you not, my face was dull and looking dry.
I have been so busy these past weeks and haven’t had the time to apply my face mask – I just manage to cleanse, exfoliate (a few times 🙈) and cleanse because the hustle is real.
I decided to mask on Saturday and thought of what could give me that exfoliating, hydrating, moisturizing and brightening feel all at once as per Oliver Twist. That need birthed my Activated Charcoal, Orange Peel and Turmeric Mask.
Why Face Masks?
Applying a facial mask is one of the easiest ways to get healthy and supple skin within a few minutes. Depending on what you want to achieve, they may help to hydrate the skin, diminish fine lines, even out skin tone, firm the skin etc.
It takes only a few seconds to apply, and then you wait for about 15 to 20 minutes, wash it to reveal a fresher and more supple face…… boooom!
Why I chose my Ingredients
I have an oily and acne prone skin, so I need actives that’ll help with that, which is why I went for these:
Activated Charcoal is a great exfoliator and deep cleanser that binds to dirt and helps pull it out of your pores, making your pores less visible. It’s extra and deep cleansing properties help get the dead skin off. It also helps to pull out excess oils from your skin, leaving it smooth.
I chose orange peel powder for its antioxidants and vitamin C properties that help tighten and tone the skin, giving it a healthy glow. The citric acid in orange peel also helps to exfoliate and brighten up your skin.
Extra Tip – because I love you guys 😂😂 So, if you’re a minimalist like me, you can make your orange peels yourself.
Buy your oranges; Wash them thoroughly and peel; Spread the peels on a clean tray and place them in areas where they’ll receive plenty of sunshine – not directly under the sun to avoid losing most of its benefits; Let orange peels dry for a day or two then crush the peels into a powder using a blender and store the powder in an air-tight container. However, if you can’t do this, you can get affordable powders and herbs here
Finally, I chose Turmeric for its curcumin, a bioactive component that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps fade scars, brighten the skin and soothes inflammation.
What you need:
1 tbsp Turmeric powder
1tbsp Activated Charcoal
1 tbsp Orange peel powder
Bowl and spoon to mix
Rosewater to mix. You can also use honey, water or lemon juice, but I prefer Rosewater for its calming and anti inflammatory properties.
Combine all powders and add rosewater to form a thick consistency
Apply paste to freshly cleansed face
Leave on for 15-20 minutes (I made and ate eba while waiting 😂)
Rinse off and apply your serum and moisturizer.
Say hello to fresh face!
